This is the best first person shooter on the market today. I know I’m not making any friends with the Halo crowd here but I’m sticking to my guns on this one (sorry). This is one of those rare titles that not only lives up to the hype surrounding it but far surpasses my expectations. I’m just about as jaded a gamer as you’ll find out there folks and even I found very little to complain about with Call of Duty 4. Ok enough mindless praise, let’s get to the meat of this review shall we?
So the first thing you notice when you put this one in is how good the graphics look. And boy do they look good. The level of detail really helps immerse you in this hot, dry dust-choked part of the world. If you’re anything like me you’ll find yourself just looking at the game, probably getting shot in the face for your trouble. Hands down, this game looks great.
The sound design is great too. The explosions and gunfire sound realistic and the score is well done. The music isn’t constant, it’s filtered in and out as you reach certain story point in the game, pretty cool.
The single-player campaign is very compelling entertainment. The standard US soldiers hunting terrorists to prevent World War three aspect is there in full force but this time you actually see consequences for US military SOP and are forced to play the rest of the game from the British perspective. A welcome change if you ask me. Not to say that the Marines in the game are any less badass, but their sacrifice makes the rest of the game’s narrative that much more effective.
The game really shines however when you delve into the online multiplayer. All the standard online FPS bits are there: multiple maps, game types, character classes and weapons in abundance. But the addition of a experience points system for unlocking weapons and upgrades and challenges within the online mode to increase your rank make for a truly addictive experience.
I didn’t play any other games for about two weeks after getting this one people. I fully expect those of you who haven’t already done so, to go out immediately and pick up the game of the year edition of Call of Duty 4 and stop reading this stupid blog. Now soldier!

Yeah this game is awesome. I really enjoy multiplayer mode, it is much better than single player. It simply makes game more fun when you play with other people. Ingame AI tends to be so stupid sometimes.
And also I’ve heard that COD5 is coming, so we can expect even more fun soon. Can’t wait…
Halo over Cod4? Your mates need their heads checking. COD4 is in a different league, even over Halo 3.
